What is a Home Study and why do I need one?
Although there are many ways for a child to join your family through adoption, a home study is always required. The home study involves a lot of paperwork and several interviews, including a visit to your home. Although it is not meant to feel intrusive, it is a thorough assessment of your family to determine that you would be a good resource for a child. It is written up as a document that provides the court or country (in international adoptions) with background information about your family and ensures them that you have been carefully screened and educated on adoption.
