Placing a child in Missouri

Placing Your Child for Adoption.  What you should know in Missouri.

In considering the decision to make an adoption plan for your child, understanding the adoption process and knowing your rights can help minimize some of the stress and concern about your decision.  If you are considering adoption in the state of Missouri, we are here to assist in navigating the process.

Who must consent to Adoption?

Missouri requires that the Birth Mother, plus any other legally recognized parents, give their consent to adoption.  A Birth Mother can officially consent to the adoption 48 hours or more after the baby is born, according to adoption laws in Missouri.  An attorney will be provided.

Unfortunately, there are potential adoption situations in which the Birth Father is not known or not involved. In the state of Missouri, there are various situations that may or may not require his consent, so it is important to consult with legal counsel or work through your adoption counselor to help navigate the most appropriate course of action.
